The Art of Craftsmanship Revisited

Feels great to be done by 7pm latest and to have the whole weekend all to yourself!!

So... the competition I have been working on hosted by LVMH (MOËT HENNESSY - LOUIS VUITTON Group) and Parsons is finally on display and open to the public!! It's called the Art of Craftsmanship Revisited and was previewed at Milk Studios during NY Fashion Week. The exhibit will be displayed through June at Governor's Island, a small Island between Manhattan and Brooklyn that opens up during the summer. Its the perfect place to go during the weekends. Free bike rentals, awesome concerts, and of course, great exhibits!

A little background about the competition: 23 teams paired with 23 artisans from the NY area. The challenge was to use the craft of these artisans as inspiration for a garment and to produce a short documentary highlighting the craft.

Last Wednesday  we had a fabulous awards ceremony on the island and it was great! I had never been to GI before so going for an LVMH event was definitely and experience. We took the water taxi over which was a quick 5-10 minute trip. Walking off the taxi and on to the island.... took my breath away. It was set up so beautifully with tons of champagne and wonderfully plated, delicious food.

Sun out, cool breeze, happy people, beautiful artwork, food and drinks.... what more could you ask for?

 About 4 of the houses on the Island were reserved for the exhibit which featured our garments, documentaries and other fun things. Some artisans were present at the event demonstrating their craft, which was really amazing. There was a Fendi bag making station, where we saw how the Fendi baguette bag was crafted entirely by hand using leather; there was a station displaying the making of the Lady Dior bag; a calligrapher showing of his work; and many rooms spread through the four houses displaying our garments, artisans' work and documentaries.

Maybe I'm biased but my favorite room was the clock room (Our garment was inspired by clock-maker, David Munro). The room displayed Hublot's one million dollar Black Caviar watch; our lovely garment; a Tag Heuer time piece; Some of Mr. Munro's work; and many clock parts that showed the inner workings of a clock. It was a beautiful room!

Ok enough of that. Basically, If you are in the city The Art of Craftsmanship Revisited hosted by LVMH and Parsons is a must-see exhibit at Governor's Island.
